troubled by ILFOs
on thursday, 26th october, we will be celebrating Austria's National Holiday. we are sooooooooo proud of being Austrians, aren't we. anyway, it's a holiday.
as usual, our military is going to show off its tanks and other stuff on the famous Heldenplatz in the heart of Vienna. we have such a good military, haven't we, and we certainly need it - like we need a third leg.
normally it's fun living near the center of Vienna. BUT when those guys in ugly fancy dress are preparing for their show, they take helicopters and things to Heldenplatz right over my head! they've got helicopters named Black Hawks - much too noble a name, Nazgûl would be more appropriate, but still too noble. i call them ILFOs.
Inhumanly Loud Flying Objects. some flew over my head even this morning. i know the game: it will be worse tomorrow, and still a lot worse on thursday - because then there will be planes too. UGH!

those yellow ear plugs seem to help or listen to some good music it's a way to spend austrian day. I didnt know there was such a day. over here you have veteran day and queens day, it's all quite innocent I guess..
what we are really supposed to celebrate is austria's liberty... 51 years ago on a 26th october the independence of austria was officially accepted (after the allied forces had overrun us to free us from our own Nazis, and had divided the country into four zones - british, french, russian and american).
it's NOT a day to show off our military forces, which are bloody ridiculous, if the truth was told.
it IS a day to gather a few friends and go on a small walking tour in the west of vienna :-)

i mean 51 years ago. the end of the war was 61 years ago, but it wasn't till 1955 that austria finally became an independent nation again and all the other guys withdrew their soldiers.
btw, till 1967 the national holiday was called Day of the Austrian Flag... some elderly people still refer to it as "Tag der Fahne".
Hehehehehehe, Sounds scary, frightenly alike the natinal day in Norway. I have alwasy wondered why the military guys look lilke they are so proud..maybe I should ask them some time. I cannot come up with any reason
