the cue of the cuckoo
"the cuckoo's sweet cooing,
when his throat was inflamed by the taste of mango-shoots,
became a speech of the God of Remembrance,
apt to sweep away coy women's pride."
yesterday i was sitting in the library, reading this very stanza (written by Kâlidâsa in the 4th century)... and when i was halfway through writing down my translation, a beautiful girl came in who isn't talking to me, and at least said hello.
now if that isn't coincidence. hmmmmmmmmm.
