a man of many faces
although this guy (Alex Tan - yeah, he's got a blog on here too! hello, mr. Tan!) does it as a show act, this art of bian lian ("changing the face") is actually used in traditional chinese theater - for mythological scenes, when one character turns into another by magic or miracle. particularly, the Mask Changer is a standard character in Sichuan opera. wish i could do it too :-)
by the way, there is also a chinese movie about this art (rather melodramatic plot, or else it wouldn't be a chinese movie...)

Wow, that is quite impressive
:)
he's good, isn't he? i have half a mind to buy some masks and give it a try.
Ah, do!!!!
:):):)
looked through a few shops today... difficult to find just the right kind of masks, and anyway i'll have to paint them myself :)
hmmm, and one would need a cape or cloak, like the guy in the video. (though in the movie there was a mask change where the guy just covered his face with a fan... trick photography if i ever saw any.)
would make a terrific street act.
you could make your own masks with plaster-wraps.
Its very easy.
Just cover your face in a cream and cover all the places were its hairy with some plastic or something.
Then put the plaster-wraps in water and smooth it on and wait til it dryes.
Then just make a lot of funny faces and it comes off.
And you have a mask that looks like you that you can paint
:)
sounds like fun, especially the funny faces part :)
but i would need a LOT of masks, at least nine or ten. that's work, that is.
Gosh, how did you insert that video into your blog? I am dying to something similar (inserting vids, not music) and have been scratching my head pondering for a few days.
Do tell... pleeease?
i found that video on youtube.com, and youtube has a special button for that kind of thing... any video you find there you can post on a blog.
it should be possible to blog any video, but i don't know how to do that either :-/
oh ok. Well, thanks for the info :)
